Urgent Appeal: Wayanad Landslide Relief—Your Help is Critical 

Dear Donors,

We are a Disaster Relief service organization namely PALAM-NGO (People Awareness and Legal Aid Movement), have always been in the forefront for relief and rehabilitation work during and after natural calamities.

Wayanad Disaster

The hills of Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district were devastated by catastrophic landslides on July 30, 2024. In just a few hours, entire villages like Mundakai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha were buried under massive debris. Homes, shops, and vital infrastructure have been destroyed, leaving communities isolated and desperate.

The Human Toll

Over 400 lives have been lost, with many still missing. Rescuers face blocked roads, unstable ground, and ongoing landslides, making search and rescue operations extremely difficult. Time is running out to save those still trapped.

Government and Community Response

While the government is doing everything in its power—calling in army assistance and providing financial aid—the scale of this disaster is overwhelming. Chief Minister has requested military support to construct temporary bridges, and Prime Minister has pledged central aid for the affected families. 

However, government resources alone are not enough to address the enormity of the crisis. This is where NGOs play a crucial role. Coordination with the Local organizations, PALAM-NGO (People Awareness and Legal Aid Movement), has huge experience in similar Disaster Management.
